Vintage Quest Acres
Egg Information

Our eggs are truely free-range. Unlike store bought 'organic, free-range' egg corporations that game the system
with tiny porches as the 'range' we allow our small flock to roam over acres of pasture eating various live
plants, seeds, worms and insects for a balanced diet. This diet is reflected in the egg. This type of pasturing is
also expensive in labor and acerage and does not control the light and temperature for optimum production.
Free ranging also exposes the birds to predation by hawks, foxes, racoons and neighborhood dogs. For these
reasons large industrial egg producers cannot truely free-range for the prices they charge. We put about 30
chickens per acre. Store bought eggs come from hens who live in small cages or are tens of thousands per acre
and are fed anti-biotics daily due to unsanitary living conditions.

We sell the eggs for $8 a dozen in singles from veggie drop off locations but prefer to sell them in the 3 month
periods that coincide with our egg coop and veggie CSA periods. The price of the eggs varies according to the
season to accurately reflect the actual costs of true, small flock free range eggs without labor. The $8.00 price
includes being compensated for our labor. In the coldest and hotest times of the year production is reduced. In
winter there are additional feed costs due to less insects and pasture.

Not all '3 month periods' have the same number of delivery weeks. See the Join CSA page for more information.
You may order as many dozen as you like depending the remaining capacity.

Eggs can be either duck or chicken. The listed price is below our cost. The reduced price is for those who also
purchase vegetable shares.

The 3 month delivery schedule is:
Winter Season - Dec, Jan, Feb - $8.00 / doz
Spring Season - Mar, Apr, May - $5.00 / doz
Summer Season - Jun, Jul, Aug - $6.00 / doz
Fall Season - Sep, Oct, Nov - $7.00 / doz
About Our Free-Range Eggs
Free-range eggs have darker yolks and “eggier” flavor
They have elevated vitamin levels, especially vitamin A
They are sought after at farmer’s markets, health-food stores, bakeries,
quality restaurants, and locally-owned supermarkets
The hens live a more humane life free from a 1' cube cage
Some people claim that free range eggs are more nutritious and healthier than farm factory eggs.

Store Bought Eggs are a rip-off

Not all eggs are equal despite labeling claiming so. Research has shown that store bought eggs are not just
lacking in nutrition and inhumanely produced but may be contributing to Cholesterol problems. See the article
above.

Egg Safety
Since our fowl are free ranged with the ability to spread out over acres we do not see the problems that egg factory
farms see due to crowding. Follow this link to read about problems found in factory farms.
